Feb. 23 | Transition Planning Students with disabilities transitioning beyond high school must have a transition plan and services included in their IEP (Individualized Education Plan). The law is clear, but for most students, the IEP transition plan is not. Find out what is needed and who should be involved.
March 22 | Practical Parenting Dr. Debbie Mishek will discuss how learning, attention and mood issues impact behavior, and how to parent students with these challenges. Dr. Mishek has been a developmental and behavioral pediatrician for over 20 years. She has consulted with schools, families and agencies to help individuals reach their potential.
April 26 | When Something's Just Not Right With Your Child --The Inside/Out of Brain Functioning This is a discussion of problems with attention, memory and mood with Dr. Nancy Markel, clinical neuropsychologist. She specializes in how the brain takes in, stores, and retrieves information, and how this affects learning and behavior. Dr. Markel is also a consultant for Rady Children’s Hospital and Sharp Rehabilitation Center at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
May 24 | Brain Building Tutoring does not deal with the underlying issues, but rather tries to work around these cognitive weaknesses, leaving them untouched with the risk of re-emerging as problems later on. Learn about the “brain training” programs that address underlying processing skills needed for life-long improvement in academic performance.
