Foundational Programs

Efficient learners are sitting in classrooms across America. They have developed the processing and thinking skills which allow them to absorb, retain, and integrate new information. They experience success in school, resulting in increased self esteem and a world full of possibilities for the future.

According to the latest research, however, about 20% of the students in a class are struggling.trying as hard as they can to keep up, to "get it," to pay attention. They have inefficient processing skills that make learning harder. They may or may not be identified as having a learning disability, but they feel "different" from their scholarly peers.

Learning challenges occur when underlying processing and executive functioning skills are inefficient. These areas of processing can include:

  • Attention
  • Memory
  • Processing
  • Reasoning
  • Language
  • Phonemic awareness
  • Integration

But there is help! We know from research that the brain can be retrained to process more efficiently. The discovery of the "plasticity" of the brain has opened the doors for many programs that help students become more independent learners. These foundational programs can help prepare the brain for academic learning and improved social skills.

At Banyan Tree, we assess a student's learning and processing efficiency, and recommend a foundational program or services, if needed. This may include such programs as Fast ForWord, PACE, SAMONAS Sound Therapy, or Interactive Metronome. We may recommend additional services in the areas of speech and language, or occupational therapy/sensory integration. This is the first step in helping students experience success in learning, in school, and in social situations.
