Fast ForWord is an intensive software program that builds reading and language skills in just 90 minutes a day. It can also be used for students with auditory processing problems.
Fast ForWord Products are now available in TWO ways:
1. TYPICALLY parents purchase a single product license for each FF program needed for their child. For example, if the student enrolls in and completes FF Language, and then wants to enroll in FF Language to Reading, this would require purchasing 2 licenses from the company, Scientific Learning, through the provider. The program can be administered at home with parents monitoring, or at the approved provider site. This is the traditional method of delivering this intervention.
2. NOW certified providers may obtain a site license and multiple workstations, with the flexibility to move students through different products as they need them. This feature is only available when students work at a provider site. For example, if a student is working on FF Literacy at Banyan Tree, and finishes several games that were less challenging, but is still working on more difficult exercises, we have the flexibility to move the student to Literacy Advanced so the student will still be challenged.
Introductory Offer: Fast ForWord Flexibility Program
Parents who enroll students in Fast ForWord for Summer 2008 will be offered an incredible opportunity! For the price of 1 Language or Literacy product license, students will have one year to complete 3 Fast ForWord programs. For example, if a student enrolls in Language, he will also be able to complete Language to Reading and Reading Level 1 before Summer 2009. This can be done one right after the other, or spaced throughout the year so students have a break and allow time for the brain to process and reorganize after completing a set of exercises. After this summer, there will be an additional fee for any reading products following the language products.
New Fast ForWord Fluency Program
Reading Assistant is now available to build fluency in oral reading. Students are able to read passages aloud on the computer, which records their reading, tracks errors, teaches missed words, and makes data available for each reading, showing decreased errors and increased words read per minute. There is an additional fee for this program. It is not part of the introductory program mentioned above for Summer 2008.
Brain Fitness for Adults
Many adults are feeling the need to sharpen brain skills these days, and the Brain Fitness program can make a difference. Developed by Posit Science, it works very much like Fast ForWord, but is geared toward improving visual and auditory memory, processing speed, and mental alertness in adults of ALL ages. Results are impressive in baby-boomers as well as the geriatric populaton. Please contact us for more information. This can be done as a home program or part of our new Adult Brain/Body Fitness Program.

If learning problems cannot quickly be resolved with a little extra tutoring then usually there are deficiencies in the underlying learning skills required to make learning easy, efficient, and fast. PACE helps learners and their parents understand where the problems are, and provides a method for remediating the issues. This program usually requires 36 hours of instruction in the Center, and 36 hours of work at home with a parent. For more details on PACE, go to www.processingskills.com
The Interactive Metronome® (IM) combines the concept of a musical metronome with a patented technology program that accurately measures, assesses and improves a person's rhythm and timing. It is the only program that uses a patented auditory guidance system plus interactive exercises to improve the foundational skills essential for learning and development.
The IM program 'trains the brain' to plan, sequence and process information more effectively through repetition of interactive exercises. Thirteen different hand and foot exercises are performed while auditory guide tones direct the individual to match the metronome beat. The difference between the individual's response and the computer generated beat is measured in milliseconds (ms.) and a score is provided. A low ms. score indicates improved timing and overall performance. The program consists of either (12 or 15) one-hour sessions which can be completed in just 3 to 5 weeks.
Supporting Articles:
The IM program has been shown to produce significant results in children and adults with a wide range of physical and cognitive difficulties including ADHD. The March/April 2001 issue of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy identified five core areas of statistically significant improvements gained through the IM training program:
Ongoing studies continue to validate correlations between Interactive Metronome and academic achievement in mathematics, language, reading and attention to task. The IM program has also proven to be a powerful tool for improving both the physical and mental aspects of athletic performance.
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention reports that approximately 7% of the nation's 6 to 11 year olds have been diagnosed with ADHD. Additionally, statistical research has shown that half of all ADHD students have learning disabilities and about one-third of these students have one or more of the following:
According to research conducted by Harris Interactive Surveys, a majority of teachers (95%) believe that left untreated, ADHD affects school performance. Among teachers who participated in the survey, 90% think that untreated ADHD usually leads to disruptive behavior in the classroom and has a negative effect on social skills.
A double-blind, placebo controlled study of 9 to 12 years old boys diagnosed with ADHD, found those undergoing the Interactive Metronome training program showed significant patterns of improvement in attention, coordination, control of aggression/impulsivity, reading and language processing. This study was published in The March/April 2001 issue of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.
Current IM Providers are utilizing the Interactive Metronome training program with populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric (developmentally six years of age and older). The providers offer IM training to help improve:
In addition, other studies showed significant correlations between IM performance and age, motor coordination, attention, academic achievement, visual motor control and coordination. You can find additional information on the IM research section of their website at www.interactivemetronome.com.
